One-to-one online tutoring with Dr Laura

All of my lessons are one-on-one. There is enough time to go through any topic as in depth as you like and with as many examples as you like without time pressure. Fundamental concepts can be revisited to build up understanding of tricky content until it is mastered through conversation and gentle questioning where I work out where confusion lies.

We can plan a series of lessons to revise an entire course, unit or concept. This can be with a combination of targeted past exam questions or by going through key concepts at a pace which works for you. Since the lessons are one-on-one we can add in extra lessons where needed for extra support or interest.

I have experience in tutoring students with additional support needs including dyslexia, ADHD and school avoidance. I adapt my teaching style for each student. This is through the choice of example question, the way I word my explanations and also through the choice of resources used.

All lessons are designed with you in mind, based on your preferences and where you are in your learning.

I can go through the underlying concepts, making notes with you and send them over afterwards. This is always at your pace, guided by discussion letting me know where some extra time would be beneficial. If it is a concept you’ve done a while ago then we can do some brief revision notes before heading on to practice questions. This shows both me and you where your gaps in understanding are so we can work on them.

Finally when it gets closer to exam time we can work through exam questions together, building on exam technique. If you give me notice on what you want to study in a given lesson then I will have resources prepared beforehand. Otherwise feel free to turn up on the day and we’ll go from there. Most importantly, this is your lesson and so we’ll do what works for you.

• Lessons must be booked for at least one hour, but can extend in half-hourly blocks after the inital hour. For example, you can book a lesson for 1 hour, 1.5 hours, 2 hours etc, but not 0.5 hours or 1.25 hours.
• All lessons must be paid for in advance, up to 24 hours before the lesson is due to take place. Any lessons not paid for before this time will be cancelled.
• A 'no-show' is to be defined as a tutee not attending a scheduled session within 10 minutes of the start time. No-shows will not be entitled to a refund, except in exceptional circumstances at my discretion. You can ask for a postponement, in writing, of a scheduled session up to 1 hour before the scheduled start time, in which case this will not be treated as a no-show.
• Refunds are processed in the following circumstances:
  • When payment has already been made, but a request to cancel has been received in writing no later than 24 hours before the scheduled session.
  • When payment has already been made, but a request to rearrange has been received in writing no later than 1 hour before the scheduled session, and the agreed cost of the rearranged lesson is less than that of the initial lesson. The payment is put towards the settlement of the new, re-arranged lesson, and any overpayment will be refunded to you. Please note that if the cost of the rearranged lesson is greater than the initially booked lesson, then the difference must be paid no later than 24 hours before the rearranged lesson is due to take place.
  • You are not satisfied with my service after the initial session. For the avoidance of doubt, the initial session is the first 1-hour lesson with me for any given student. If an initial session is booked for more than one hour, only the first hour will be refunded.
  • In exceptional no-show circumstances, at my discretion.
• While I am happy to discuss assignments and coursework, including the different sections contained, I will not write any example coursework or assignment.
